Transforming lives through the Power of Work.

A RE-ENTRY TRANSITION to STABILITY

Miguel received a second change when he re-entered his community after serving a 30-year sentence. Miguel had no family support and no home waiting for him. He lacked some of the most basic skills required to rebuild his life: no formal education, no work history.

That changed when Miguel, through the Aim High Sober Living facility, discovered the Goodwill SoCal and the LA:RISE program. There, Miguel acquired skills to help him rebuild his life with purpose and confidence. He learned professional behavior, financial literacy, and self-discipline. Most importantly, he began to embody the spirit of generosity and support that was extended to him.
Miguel now maintains stable housing, holds steady employment, and owns his own car—milestones that once seemed out of reach. He works as a Peer Supporter at a respected mental health services organization. In his new role, Miguel is committed to paying forward the support and understanding that helped transform his life. He proudly credits LA:RISE with changing the course of his future.

“What once seemed impossible has now become a reality! After 30 years of incarceration, I have risen. The Goodwill LA Rise-ing program has given me the necessary experience, skill, and confidence to work and live independently. Be fearless. Take a hold of the “Good” in Goodwill!”
